Last week in Bologna, Anastasios Giannaros, Co-Founder and CTO of Project Lighthouse, represented our organization in the Kick-Off Meeting of UPRAISE – Virtual Worlds Innovation Masters, a four-year project co-funded by the European Health and Digital Executive Agency (HaDEA).

The meeting took place at the University of Bologna (Alma Mater Studiorum) and brought together partners from across Europe to launch a collaborative effort focused on strengthening digital skills in emerging fields such as Extended Reality (XR), Artificial Intelligence (AI), Digital Twins, Blockchain, and the Internet of Things (IoT).
For Project Lighthouse, this project is an important milestone. It aligns directly with our commitment to apply cutting-edge technology in ways that truly help our societies.
Why UPRAISE Matters to Project Lighthouse
UPRAISE aligns directly with our mission:
to apply cutting-edge technology in ways that meaningfully support and empower our societies.
The project focuses on developing new models of digital learning and training to prepare learners, professionals, and communities for the expanding landscape of virtual and immersive technologies. For us, this represents an important opportunity to contribute to shaping how these technologies can be used responsibly and purposefully.
Our Key Contributions
As part of UPRAISE, we are very eager to contribute in two key areas amongst others:
- AI-enabled personalised study plans:
Developing an e-learning platform that adapts to each learner’s strengths, pace, and learning style. The goal is to support deeper engagement and help learners grow with confidence. - Virtual Worlds Skills Observatory Service:
Mapping emerging skill needs across XR, AI, Digital Twins, Blockchain, IoT, and related technologies to ensure training remains aligned with real industry and societal challenges.
A Collaborative European Effort

UPRAISE brings together 26 partners and 9 associated partners from 11 countries, forming a diverse and highly skilled network of universities, research institutes, organisations, and industry actors. The Kick-Off Meeting provided an inspiring environment for exchange, discussion, and shared planning for the work ahead.
Looking Ahead
Over the coming years, Project Lighthouse will work closely with partners to advance research, develop new learning tools, and support the cultivation of skills that encourage innovation and societal benefit.
We are excited to contribute to a project that connects technological advancement with education, human development, and social impact.
