Last week, Anastasios Giannaros, our co-founder and CTO, was invited to the Inter-Institutional MSc in Museum Studies of the National Kapodistrian University of Athens and the University of West Attica to deliver a talk titled “From Monument to Digital Journey.” During this session, he presented how technology can support museums and cultural institutions in meaningful and socially impactful ways.

Sharing Digital Heritage Insights with the NKUA & UWA Museum Studies MSc

Drawing on four major projects undertaken by our team, Virtual Street Museum, Digicult, the info-kiosks of Kalavryta, and the Digital Museum of Aigio, Anastasios explained how cultural material can be transformed into digital experiences that serve the public. He guided students through the full process, from collecting and organizing content to designing applications, AR tools, and museum kiosks.

How Digital Experiences Strengthen Public Connection to Culture

What became clear throughout the presentation is that technology becomes valuable only when used with purpose. Digital tools matter most when they help society learn, connect, and appreciate its cultural identity. The Digital Museum of Aigio, for example, demonstrates how thoughtful digital design can make local history accessible to visitors of all ages and backgrounds.

Inspiring the future generation of museum professionals

The goal of this talk was to inspire the next generation of museum professionals. These students will eventually collaborate with technologists, designers, archaeologists, and policymakers. We wanted to give them a realistic perspective on the digital dimension of cultural heritage and how their work can contribute to meaningful public experiences.

At Project Lighthouse, we believe that technology is worth developing only when it serves society. Cultural heritage is one of the clearest examples of this belief in action. We are grateful for the opportunity to contribute to this programme and to support the future professionals who will shape the museum landscape of tomorrow.
